Thunderbird Trivia

• Ford Motor Company sponsored a contest to name it's newest car, which was won by Ford stylist Alden Giberson.
•The name "Thunderbird" comes from the mythical southwestern bird.
•The Thunderbird made it's public debut at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954.
•The first 1955 Thunderbird came off the line at the Dearborn Assembly Plant on September 9, 1954.
•The Thunderbird went on sale October 22, 1954.
•The base sticker price of $2,695.00 included the removable hard-top (but not the soft-top), clock, tachometer, power operated seats and a 292 CID V-8 engine.
• More than 3,500 orders were placed for the '55 T-Bird in first 10-day selling period.
•The '55 T-Bird was so popular, Ford ended up selling 16,155 units of the 1955 model.
•Originally, the car was available in 3 colors: Thunderbird Blue, Raven Black and Torch Red.
•No sun visors were on the 1955 models.
•The 1955 Thunderbird outsold the Corvette by a margin greater than 4 to 1.
